Shirley Duggan, a beloved member of her community, passed away on September 22, 2024 in South Boston, Massachusetts. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 12, 1935, Shirley's remarkable journey through life was characterized by her unwavering commitment to helping others and her infectious smile that could light up even the darkest of days.
Throughout her distinguished career, Shirley played vital roles in shaping the lives of many. As a former Legislative Aide at the Massachusetts State House, she was dedicated to public service, tirelessly advocating for the needs of her constituents and working closely with lawmakers to drive meaningful change. Her passion for education followed her into her role as a retired public school teacher, where her influence reached the hearts and minds of countless students in Everett and Lawrence.
Known fondly as the unofficial ‘Mayor’ of Hst and East Broadway, Shirley was much more than a community member; she was a pillar of support for all who knew her. Always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, she built lasting relationships that enriched her life and the lives of those around her. Shirley’s warmth and kindness were evident in everything she did—whether it was organizing local events, volunteering her time, or simply sharing a smile with a neighbor.
Shirley's legacy will forever be cherished by her loving family, including her daughter Beverly McGuire and son Timothy Duggan, who carry her spirit in their hearts. Her memory will also be honored by Grandchildren Edward M. McGuire III, Max Mcguire, Timmy, Blanche, Elyse, and Anna Duggan.
