ROBERT J MESSINA

Robert J. Messina,  passed away on January 30, 2025, at his home in South Boston after a courageous battle with stage 4 prostate cancer that spanned the last eight years. He was born in Boston, MA, on November 27, 1941.

Raised in Boston, Bob was a graduate of English High School known as Missle Messina where he excelled in  baseball , basketball  and football. His athletic prowess and dedication to the community paved the way for his recognition as a member of the South Boston Hall of Fame and the English High School Hall of Fame. Loyal member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. His commitment to service was evident through his distinguished career as a private investigator and constable in Boston, where he earned the respect and admiration of many.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was a true gentleman, known for his vibrant personality and love for life. He enjoyed staying physically active, often taking walks around the sugar bowl. A passionate motorcycle enthusiast, he relished the camaraderie of riding his Harley Davidson with friends, cherishing every moment spent on the open road.

Bob leaves behind his beloved wife, Toby Messina, and his stepson Jason Dutra, along with Jason's wife Ronda and their daughter Eleese Dutra of Gales Ferry, Connecticut. He is also survived by his brother Richard and his companion Mary Smith of Kingston, and cherished nieces Lisa Whittemore and her husband Lee, and Michelle Sheehan. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by many great nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Visitation with family will be held on Monday  February 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Wm. F. Spencer Funeral Service 575 E. Broadway (at Hst) South Boston, MA. A private Funeral service will be held in the Glman Chapel at Cedar Gove Cemetery 920 Adams St. Dorchester, MA. on Tuesday. 

Robert J. Messina will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness, bravery, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of those he loved and served. IN lieu of flowers donations in Bob's memory may be made to the BMC Oncology Dept. 830 Harrison Ave. Boston, MA 02118 Attn. Dr. Gretchen Gignac.
