Richard James Ford

Richard James Ford, known affectionately as Richie, passed away on April 15, 2025, at the Life Care Center of Acton. Born on 10, 1950, in Boston, he lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and an enduring passion for knowledge.

Richie's career spanned many years within law enforcement, culminating in his role as a Lieutenant in the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department. He notably served in the Records office at Charles St. Jail before leaving in 1990 to become the personal driver for John R. Silber, the esteemed president of Boston University and a gubernatorial candidate for Massachusetts. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he was known for always being cheerful and willing to lend a helping hand to those around him.

An Army veteran, Richie served during the Vietnam era from 1968 to 1970. This chapter of his life instilled in him a sense of duty and camaraderie that carried throughout his years.

Richie had a profound appreciation for history, immersing himself in books that explored the past and reliving historical events through literature. His intellectual curiosity was complemented by a love of golf, where he spent countless hours on the course alongside friends, shining as a single-digit golfer.

He is survived by his devoted sisters, Patricia McAlevey and Mary Kasanzek, along with sixteen nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him. Richie was preceded in death by his father, John W. Ford, and his mother, Yvonne (Gionet).

The community remembers Richie not only for his significant contributions as a public servant but also for the joy he brought to the lives of those around him. His commitment to friendship and his love for learning will forever be a guiding light in the hearts of all who knew him.
