MICHAEL OKURUME

Michael O. Okurume passed away peacefully on March 14, 2022, at Marian Manor Nursing Home in South Boston.  He was 73.  Born in Warri, Nigeria, Michael came to the US in 1976 to study, and proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1984.  He had lived in the Hyde Park, Mattapan, and Roxbury neighborhoods of Boston.

He had many varied careers.  He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Berkeley College of Music and a Master’s Degree in Arts Theater from Emerson College, leading to a position teaching African Music and Dance in the Boston Public Schools.  He worked for many years as an usher at the Boston Symphony Orchestra Hall.  In other fields, he held a supervisory position with Argenbright Security at Logan Airport, and as a medical assistant at Boston Medical Center.  

Mike had been an active and enthusiastic member of the Urhobo Social Club.  

Several of Mike’s siblings pre-deceased him.  He leaves siblings and many nieces and nephews in Nigeria.

Services will be held at Spencer Funeral Home, 575 E. Broadway, South Boston on Saturday, March 26 at 9 AM.  Burial will follow immediately at Oak Lawn Cemetery, 427 Cummins Highway, Boston MA 02131.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Urhobo Social Club, P.O. Box 120338, Boston MA 02112, or to a charity of your choice, with acknowledgements sent to the Urhobo Social Club
