John (“Jack”) Berube passed away at Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center on August 9, 2024 after a brief illness. He was 88 years old.
Jack was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on July 9th, 1936 to Saul Leo Berube and Blanche Irene (Galipeau) Berube. He attended college at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst from 1954-1958, where he met and married his wife, Marjorie (Lewing) Berube. He received his Master of Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston and then chose to focus on building a family rather than pursue his PhD. Jack and Marge raised their three children in Sudbury, MA. Jack worked for the Raytheon Corporation as a Consulting Scientist, working on radar development in various technical and leadership roles until he retired in 1995.
Jack loved to travel, and he and Marge visited many places, including the southwest US, Alaska, Europe, Australia, the Caribbean and Israel. They lived on a South Pacific island, Kwajalein, for the last two years of Jack’s engineering career. Following his retirement, they enjoyed 20 years living in Falmouth, MA, as the Cape had always been a favorite family vacation spot. They built many special memories there and were an active part of the community, including the John Wesley United Methodist Church. Jack was a lifelong student of history and enjoyed genealogy, swimming, and tending to his vegetable garden. In 2016, Jack and Marge moved to the Willows Retirement Community in Worcester, MA where he lived until his passing.
Jack leaves his wife, Marge, to whom he was happily married for 65 years, son Robert Berube and wife Rebecca (Sendrowski) Berube, daughter Heidi (Berube) Peterson and husband ThomasPeterson, daughter Elizabeth (Berube) Faulkner and husband Prescott Faulkner, grandchildren Steven Berube, Sarah (Berube) Percuoco and husband Matthew Percuoco, Ethan Faulkner, Emily Faulkner, Lucas Faulkner and Bethany Peterson, great grandchildren Ginny and Danny Percuoco, sister Yvonne (Berube) Macedo, sister-in-law Dee (Lewing) Adkins, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 14th at 11:00 am at Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir St, Holden, MA.
