South Boston resident Dorothy “Dot” McHenry, 90, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 10th surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston on November 13th, 1922 to Mary Ann (Towey) O’Keefe of County Mayo, Ireland and Frank O’Keefe of County Cork, Ireland. Mrs. McHenry attended Gate of Heaven Grammar and High Schools in South Boston and Boston Business School. She married in 1942 and moved to Rochester, New York, where she worked for Kodak and lived for many years. Later, she lived in Glendale, California and, upon returning to Boston in the Early 1960’s, worked for the Federal Government. Mrs. McHenry loved spending time with her family, her animals, reading, taking art classes and oil painting, for which she won a number of awards. Some of her happiest memories were from summers at her family home in Ogunquit, Maine where she vacationed for over forty years. She particularly enjoyed walking along Ogunquit’s scenic coastline, especially the Marginal Way, and painting seascapes. She is survived by her daughter Donna Marie Souris, son-in-law Constantine “Charlie” Souris as well as other devoted family members including Timothy, Jennifer, Matthew and Jessica Souris and Michael Curran. she was pre-deceased by an infant son and her two sisters.
