Barbara Griffin passed away at home surrounded by her children. At 88 years young, she joins her family for a reunion in heaven with her husband Francis "Frank" Griffin, her daughter Judith "Jude" Griffin, her brothers John, Joseph, and Paul Conroy and sisters MaryKatherine (Conroy) Broderick, Ann (Conroy) Palmgren, Theresa (Conroy) Burke, her parents Bridget (McGonagle) and Patrick Conroy. She leaves behind her daughter Karen (Griffin) Cavanagh (husband Michael) of Chelmsford MA and sons Keith (wife Brenda) of Ringe NH, and Craig (wife Michelle) of Groton MA. She also leaves her grandchildren Derrick (Jessica), Mark (Alyson), Nicole, Connor, and Justin as well as her great-grandchildren Emma, Evan, Aria, Owen, and Noah.
Barbara liked being active and always thoughtfully gave of her time and attention. She walked the Boston Marathon patient walk for Dana Farber to raise funds in honor of her daughter many times, enjoyed giving to Alzheimer veterans at the Bedford VA during the holidays, participated in Wreaths across America putting wreaths on Veteran's graves, walked for Walk and Wag pairing shelter dogs with veterans, and truly enjoyed giving back. She took pleasure in travelling with friends, playing Canasta or five Crowns, and being social. Some of her quieter pastimes were reading, swimming, walking, and sewing learning aides like funblocks, adult bibs, and pillow quilts for craft fairs.
Barbara was a strong, independent, caring person who donated her body in the hopes of helping Harvard Medical School better understand current ailments and find cures for others, if able. Her love, kindness and strength will be greatly missed and forever remembered. May her soul rest in peace.
A memorial mass will be held in her honor on Tuesday, April 9th from 11-12pm at Saint Mary's church in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in her name.
